Children's Races

Having a good time is great and these old-fashioned races showcase the fun children enjoyed in days gone by. Did you know the egg-and-spoon race dates back to 1894, the year before the plowing match began? The fun begins at noon in the Cattle Ring. Preschool children and students from kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to have fun and laugh away the afternoon. Here’s a sampling of races that have been offered in the past. 

• Races for preschool children include Run to Mom/Dad, Bunny Hop and Penny Race. 
• Students Kindergarten and 1st grade will compete in a Crab Walk, Balloon and Penny Race. 
• 2nd and 3rd grade student races include Crab Walk, Balloon Race and Three-Legged Race with ties provided. 
• 4th, 5th and 6th grade students compete in Egg on a Spoon, Balloon and Three-legged Races with ties provided. 
• 7th and 8th grade student races include Egg on a Spoon, Three-Legged Races with ties provided and Balloon Relay.
